Participating as an adult:
Overview
Studying adults help us to understand the end point of development. We are always in need of adult participants for our adult research studies. Our adult research involves various testing techniques, for example: computer tasks, eye tracking, and non-invasive neuroimaging techniques (e.g., electroencephalography, EEG). If you are interested in participating in adult research, you can give us a call at (617)-287-6363 or email the researcher with respective email address stated below.
CURRENT ADULT RESEARCH PROJECTS
Processing information across the senses
We live in a multisensory world. To understand how we process information from different senses, we are currently running the following research projects:
(1) When I ask you to pay attention to what I say, you are deploying auditory attention. How does paying attention improve your ability to hear sounds against a background noise?
- Experiment duration: three 1hr-sessions
- Target age group: 18-30 year-old adults
(2) We receive information from multiple sensory modalities at each instant, for example we read lips while we listen to other people speak. We are interested in seeing how a task-irrelevant flash affects your performance to hear a sound, or vice versa.
- Experiment duration: two 1hr-sessions or one 1.5 hr session
- Target age group: 18-35 year-old adults
(3) Certain visual features correspond to certain auditory features semantically (e.g. happy face and happy sound) while others are correlated arbitrarily (e.g. a high pitch sound and a small object). Collaborating with the Museum, we station at the museum to run a study to examine the development of cross-modal correspondences across different age groups (age 2-85). To help us, you can visit the Acton Museum. We also run the same study in the laboratory at UMass Boston targeting older adults.
- Experiment duration: 30mins 0
- Target age group: 50+ year-old adults
If you are interested in the above studies, please contact [email protected] for further information.
Processing the emotions in faces (Adult study)
We judge emotions from faces. Does our facial emotion judgment change depending on recent exposure with faces? If you are interested, please contact [email protected] for further information.
When you come in for a visit, we will start out by telling you about the study and answering any questions that you might have. Each visit ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours and, depending on the study, there might be multiple visits required. You will receive $8-10/hr for participating!
